Welcome to the Non-AI Project. These Terms of Service govern your use of our website and our verification services. By accessing this site or submitting a project for certification, you agree to be bound by these terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By visiting the Non-AI Project website and/or submitting a project for verification, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use this service.

The Non-AI Project reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the website after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the modified terms.

2. Verification Process & Certification

2.1 Application requirements

To apply for Non-AI certification, you must:

  • Be the project creator, maintainer, or an authorized representative
  • Provide accurate information about your project, team, and development practices
  • Certify that no AI tools were used to generate code, design, or substantial written content

2.2 Review & audit

All applications undergo independent review by our auditor network. The Non-AI Project does not guarantee approval. The review process typically takes 5–10 business days for open-source projects and may take longer for commercial projects.

We reserve the right to:

  • Request additional information at any stage
  • Reject applications that do not meet our published standards
  • Investigate concerns raised by the community
  • Re-audit projects at any time if new information surfaces

2.3 Certification validity

Certification is valid for one calendar year from the date of approval. To maintain active certification status, projects must:

  • Renew their certification annually before expiration
  • Report any significant changes to development practices
  • Maintain compliance with the Non-AI Project Standard

2.4 Revocation & delisting

The Non-AI Project may revoke certification and delist projects if:

  • An audit determines AI tools were used in violation of our standards
  • The project creator or maintainer made substantially false claims
  • Community concerns are substantiated through our investigation process
  • The project is abandoned or no longer actively maintained for more than 12 months
  • The project creator requests removal in writing

Delisted projects will be removed from our verified directory. Previously distributed seals remain visible in archived records but will be marked as outdated.

3. Use of the Non-AI Seal

If your project is certified, you are granted a limited, royalty-free license to use the Non-AI Project seal on your website, in your documentation, and in promotional materials, provided that:

  • The seal links directly to your project's certificate on our site
  • Your certification remains active and in good standing
  • You use the seal unaltered and in accordance with our branding guidelines
  • You do not imply a greater scope of certification than granted (the seal certifies the project, not your entire organization)

Upon delisting or revocation, you must remove the seal from all materials within 30 days. Continued use of a revoked seal may result in legal action.

4. User Conduct

When using the Non-AI Project website or submitting information, you agree not to:

  • Provide false, misleading, or incomplete information
  • Attempt to circumvent our verification process
  • File false or bad-faith community concerns about other projects
  • Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download our data without permission
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse project creators or the Non-AI Project team
  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations

5. Intellectual Property & Data Rights

5.1 Your project data

You retain all rights to your project code, design, and content. By submitting your project for certification, you grant the Non-AI Project permission to:

  • Display your project name, description, and URL on our verified projects list
  • Store information about your project in our records
  • Use anonymized audit data for research and transparency reports
  • Reference your project in promotional materials, with your consent

5.2 Non-AI Project intellectual property

The Non-AI Project seal, branding, and verification standards are owned by the Non-AI Project. You may not reproduce, modify, or create derivative works of our seal without explicit written permission.

Our verification criteria and audit methodologies are published openly and available under a Creative Commons license for adoption by others.

5.3 Testimonials & submissions

Any testimonials, stories, or community submissions you provide are licensed to the Non-AI Project for publication on our website and promotional channels. You retain the right to request removal of your testimonial at any time by contacting us.

6. Limitation of Liability

6.1 No warranty

The Non-AI Project website and verification services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We make no warranty that:

  • The service will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • All certified projects are free of security vulnerabilities or other defects
  • Our verification process is foolproof or exhaustive

6.2 Limitation of damages

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Non-AI Project shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our website or reliance on our verification.

6.3 What we do and don't verify

The Non-AI Project certifies that a project was built without AI-generated code, design, or content based on our audit standards. We do not verify:

  • The quality, functionality, or security of the project
  • Whether the project is free from bugs or vulnerabilities
  • The accuracy or legality of the project's claims or content
  • Whether the project infringes any third-party rights

Users are responsible for evaluating projects independently before adopting them.

7. Privacy & Data Handling

Personal information you provide (name, email, contact details) is collected only to process your certification application. We handle your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

We do not sell or share your data with third parties, except when required by law or with your explicit consent.

8. Third-Party Links & Content

Our website may contain links to external resources, verified projects, and third-party tools. The Non-AI Project is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of external sites. You access external links at your own risk.

9. Service Modifications & Discontinuation

The Non-AI Project reserves the right to:

  • Modify, suspend, or discontinue the verification service at any time
  • Update verification standards as our understanding of AI evolves
  • Change fees or pricing for future commercial certification tiers

We will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users of significant changes in advance.

10. Dispute Resolution

10.1 Appeal process

If your application is denied or your certification is revoked, you may submit a written appeal to team@nonaiprojects.org within 30 days. Appeals will be reviewed by a committee independent of the original auditors.

10.2 Community concerns

If you believe a certified project violates our standards, you can file a concern through our website. All concerns are investigated within 30 days by our review committee.

10.3 Governing law

These Terms of Service are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation or, if necessary, binding arbitration.

12. Entire Agreement
